Raw Mango Chutney

The sweet and spicy Raw Mango Chutney is a favourite accompaniment to most Indian meals. Each region of India has a specific way of making it. 1 cup raw mango peeled and roughly chopped

3/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon of finely chopped ginger

1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder or green chillies

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp crushed cumin seeds

1 tsp juice lemon juice

Salt to taste


Heat 1/2 cup of water in a pan on medium heat, stir in the mangoes and cover the pan allowing it to cook until soft and tender.

Stir in the sugar, ginger, cumin, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt to the mango mixture. Continue stirring until the sugar is dissolved completely. Turn the heat to low and boil the mango mixture for another 10 minutes.

Turn off heat Finally add lemon juice and allow the Sweet and Spicy Raw Mango Chutney to cool completely and refrigerate until you are ready to serve.
